Don't panick. Be open-minded. Make the most of it. Turn negatives into positives and be creative.
For instance, the city I live in is big compared to the town I came to in Canada. I'm used to having public transport (the bus goes four times an hour right outside my house), a big mall and other shopping posibilites, two cinemaes, several optional fitness centres and so on. When my agency told me where I was going to spend the next 10 months, I got a bit worried.
Not only will the place might take you by surprise. There are also set of rules and cultural norms you will have to adapt to. Like earlier curfews, no driving and the no-boys-allowed policy (from a general perspective). After living in Yarmouth for a year, I realized that these are all irrelevent factors. It's the people you meet that matters. You can always work your way around (I'm not talking about being a rebel and break rules).
I was very lucky. Despite the small town, few boring periods and rules, I had a blast. Thanks to my host family and my wonderful friends. The international students and I weren't able to drive, which made it more difficult to get around and do stuff. However, we got creative and made the best of our situation.
I hope you do the same.
